COOL CROSKEY SUMMER CAMP

It’s hip to be COOL at Croskey Summer Camp!  Imagine a day filled with activities and adventures and new memories made with new friends.   Each week offers different themes with games, sports, arts & crafts, swimming, field trips, and more!  Imagination Station at Cool Croskey Camp puts the creative juices to the test.  A one time $22 registration fee.  $55/camper.

This program provides a variety of activities that will keep your little campers busy.  Themed activities will provide a variety of opportunities to learn something new and stay active all summer long.  There is a $5 one-time registration fee and $20/week/child, which includes one t-shirt.  City residents with proof of free or reduced lunches are $10/week/child.  Call Kelvin at 629.8389 for details.

DISCOVERY ADVENTURE CAMPS (AGES 8-12)

Are your little guys and gals up for a weekly adventure? Then bring them over to the Discovery Center where we have adventure on the schedule all summer long.  $100/member.  $110/non-member.   

Week 1 / June 10-14  – Road Trip - Got to love a Road Trip!   Saddle up in Texas & learn to lasso the cowboy way.  Say Aloha Hawaii and climb a volcano.  Anchor in Alaska and learn how to survive in the frigid lands.  Plenty of stops in between will instill the joy of traveling to all campers.

Week 2/ June 17-21 – The Sound -“Acoustics” is defined as ‘The scientific study of sound.’  This week will explore how sound is created, how our ears “hear” sound, and then look at several orchestral instruments with special guests from the Ocala Symphony Orchestra!  We will also get our beats going in a real drum-circle!

Week 3/ June 24-28 – Get Energized! – “Energy cannot be created or destroyed;  it can only be transformed.”  This week, we will investigate 6 forms of energy that runs our universe:  potential, kinetic, magnetic, mechanical, thermal, and radiant.  We’ll  perform several exciting experiments,  construct a giant kinetic “sculpture”, and  learn  to navigate “the old-fashioned way”… with compasses.

Week 4/ July 8-12 – Kid  Business – This  week YOU play Boss!  Campers will learn the ins and outs of what it’s like to run their very own business.  We will create products and sell them on Friday at our own Discovery Business Expo.

Week 5/ July 15-19 – Jr. Naturalists – Anyone can be a naturalist -  a person who studies, in detail, the natural world.   Discovery Center’s own professional naturalist will introduce campers to the wonders of Florida’s ecosystems, and teach them what it takes to be a naturalist, even at a young age!

Week 6/ July 22-26 – Everglades – Board the tour of activities to the one and only Florida  Everglades.  What’s SO special about the Everglades?  Where have our plants and animals gone?  Get personal with the Florida Panther.  Rid the wetlands of the invasive pythons.  Get caught up on the restoration to the River of Grass.

Week 7/ July 29-Aug. 2 – Get Crafty – Put on your creativity hats for this eclectic week of making all sorts of stuff!  Everyday will be chock full of crafty things like baskets, batik, origami, quilting and much, much more!

Week 8/ Aug. 5-9 – Color Week – Experience color like never before as we explore color science.  Discover where color comes from, how we perceive color, and learn how to extract color from objects just as the ancients did!  Finish off summer camp with the DC’s wild & crazy Festival of Holi! 

DISCOVERY OUTDOOR CAMP (AGES 11-14)

This program will get them scrambling off the couch!  Discover the wonders of Central Florida’s outdoors.  $100/member.  $110/non-member. 

Week 1/ June 17-21 – Color Fest – It’s a colorful tour of Florida.  Join us as we visit Blue Springs, Orange City, Silver  Glen, White Cliff Caves and Rainbow Springs.  It will culminate into a very special Festival of Colors:  Holi!

Week 2/June 24-28 – Wired Up – Get  plugged into the world of computer systems!  Learn the basics of computer programming, discover the diverse field of robotics, and jump into the matrix of game design as we get “WIRED UP!”

Week 3/ July 8-12 – Weird, Wild & Wonderful – Join us as we explore the weird, wild, and wonderful side of Florida! We’ll view the stranger side of St. Augustine, safely discover the wild world of bees and explore the wonders at  Orlando’s Wonder Works!

Week 4/ July 15-19 – Inside Extreme Sports – These games are fun, challenging and rewarding!  Discover real teamwork  when you try  something new!  Wet your toes and join us WAKEBOARDING AT ORLANDO WATER SPORTS COMPLEX!             

Week 5/ July 22-26 – Back to Basics – Enjoy the subtle art of pottery making, try your hand at fencing, a trip to Alachua counties “Dudley Farms”.  The ultimate “MEDIEVAL TIMES” experience.

Week 6/ July 29-Aug. 2 – Pick-an-Ology – Explore our favorite – ologies!  Swim with fishes with Marine Biology!  Explore artifacts with Archaeology!  Get wet with Hydrology!  Fly high with Ornithology!  Turn yourself into an “Ology” expert and explore with a purpose!
